[RESOLVED] Retrieve PrimaryKey immediately after INSERT

I have dumb beginner question. I have a form which performs an insert on submit. It inserts a record into a table which has a primary key - pk, last, first, .... The pk field is not on the form as it is an auto increment integer field. What I want to do is go to a secondary processing form passing it the pk of the record just inserted.

Currently I pass last & first but there is no guarantee that these will be unique in the table. I thought of doing a SELECT xxx.pk FROM xxx ORDER BY pk DESC LIMIT 1 but if someone inserts a record too quickly .....

So, what I am asking for is a way to determine the pk value of the record I just inserted.

a call to mysql_insert_id() sounds like exactly what you're looking for.

Thanks, That's EXACTLY what I want. It even uses the link identifier so timing issues are eliminated.
