Site not sending to db

Is there a way to see exactly what my site is doing when I click on buttons etc.? It's supposed to send information to a db and the info. isn't being sent anymore (it used to work).

I know in Ruby on Rails, I had the development & production logs to help me out, but with php i just have the access and lighttpd logs...which aren't telling me anything.

Also, could the site not be sending the info now because I copy and pasted the files to update the site? Do I have to do something to get it to connect or something? Sorry I'm pretty much a newbie with this stuff 🙂

Then you should take advantage of PHP's internal logging mechanism and log all PHP errors to a log file for later review.

Without that, I'd say manually debug a script step by step. Start printing out related variables, debugging SQL queries, etc.

Also make sure you're running with the error_reporting level at E_ALL, and for development I'd suggest E_ALL | E_STRICT.
