I want people to be able to sign up on my website and it automatically creates a subdomain for their account name.

And, I don't want it to be a big security risk 😃

Anyone know how to do this or point me to some tutorials on how to do it? I have some PHP/MySQL knowledge.

If you're running on an Apache server, you can do it with a simple PHP script and a the mod_rewrite of Apache.

Okay, thanks a lot for the info. My site is hosted on HostGator, hopefully I am able to do it on there. I don't have anything on the site yet, so I'm going to be starting from scratch with just some form or something to get the data from the user, have any suggestions? Or should I just do a basic form that sends it to the database.

Do you think it would be better if I find a already made form or something so it has like the image verification and stuff? I know how to make a form, but I'm not up-to-date on all the security stuff, like how to prevent SQL injection and stuff like that.

For the security of your forms, have a look to this page. If you like, you can also add a CAPTCHA (the verification image) but in my opinion it is not really necessary and sometimes it's boring for the user. Concering SQL injection, be just carefull of the incomming data - the one passed by the client - that will be added in your queries. Always use the $GET and $POST variables. Well format your SQL queries with sprintf and mysql_real_escape_string functions. And in case of a doubt, don't hesitate to ask!
