[RESOLVED] Using mysql etc on a cell phone??

I've got a windows mobile5 phone and I'm wanting to be able to add some sort of functionality to be able to use mysql on it. Any ideas?

I have mysql on my own network and can develop the aps etc. I use indigo's apache which allows me to run it locally just like it was online. Is there any way I can do anything like this on the mobile phone? Even to put various info on a sd card and access it from the phone in a similar manner.

Any ideas?

looks like cellica.com has a dbviewer that will do some updating and allow you to access your mysql databases from your cell phone. They have aps for blackberry, android, palm,symbian, and windows moble.

Looks pretty good but so far I haven't managed to get it to connect to mysql. See my post under database about that problem for setting up a DSN to connect to it.

Do you actually need to use MySQL? SQLite might be a better fit for mobile applications.

I'm not sure how I would use SQLite as it doesn't seem to be supporting the Android phone. At least not directly. I already have mysql databases set up on the laptop and the ap I mentioned allows you to update them and view them via the phone all I need to do is figure out how to set up the DSN for mysql. To use the SQLite I would have to program a whole new database. While I would be interested in something that would give me that capability on the phone at this point I don't think I have the time to do it plus that would be a duplication of data that would not synchronize. The synchronization is the feature that makes the ap I mentioned desirable.

Thanks for mentioning SQLite, however, as I am interested in this sort of thing as well.

I know I am responding to an old post here, but the way I do what you are talking about is to subscribe to a web hosting service that includes MySQL, set up my database there, and create pages and forms that allow me to us the DB either from a computer or from the cel phone or pda browser (this implies of course that the phone has a data subscription or the ability to use WiFi. That way, you're always dealing with the same data tables, regardless of which device you are using...which keeps everything in order.

A quick search of the Web seems to show the contrary, i.e., SQLite support is included by default, but not being an Android developer I cannot confirm this myself.

Anyway, since you are after synchronisation via an externally hosted database, this is besides the point. Joseph Sliker's suggestion appears to be more applicable.
