parsing contents of a PDF doc - anything like striptags?

I have never worked with PDF's that much and now find a need to search their content. with php you can use strip_tags() to get readable content in HTML document. What about getting readable content in a PDF doc?

I'm not sure if I can really help you with this. Personally I've never manipulated a PDF document (for either getting or setting information). But I have used PHP to dynamically create PDF documents for my clients. For this I used "http://www.ros.co.nz/pdf/". Good luck! And I hope someone out there has done some direct PDF manipulation for you.
