Mini browser coding

hey all ,

[INDENT][/INDENT]I have been currently looking for some coding to create a mini browser on

a page which gets activated when you start typing in a form or once you type

something into a form and then click search, the mini browser should then pop up

and show you at the top all of records which match what you typed in, like all the

records that have the letters in them if you know what I mean and then list the

rest of the records alphabetically after and i want to also have it so you can scroll

up and down and have them in alphabetical order and it needs to have three

columns like a table, oh and all of these records are coming from a mysql

database although you probably already figured that out.

can anyone help me out here I am really lost, could really use a hand here

p.s. i was told I would need to use ajax, is that right? 😕

When you say, "Mini Browser", do you mean a suggest-like box (think google?) In case the answer is yes, there are many examples rendered from a quick google search. Here's one of them.

i mean like a pop up window but different with search results from my database in a table on it , not as in a mini kind of google window, if it was I would have already found one lol like I don't need one for browsing the net or anything just to display search results in a table but I'm trying not to use a pop up window

A real popup window (window.open) or a hidden div that you show? With the former, you could simply pass the contents or your search box as a query string (GET). With the latter, you can build the menu as you type. Hey, guess what! This is pretty much exactly the same thing you do when you do the suggest-like search.

I'm not entirely following you 😕 I'm not totally lost just a little confused on exactly what you mean lol sorry i'm new at this kind of only had one course on php so far could you maybe post some code or something, and I'm trying to stay away from pop up windows if I can but I might have to use one because no one knows how to create a mini browser lol

You don't have to do a popup window. If I may correct you, YOU do not know how to make a "mini browser".

The point I tried to make is that your concept of a "mini-browser" is VERY similar to what everyone else calls a "suggest search." The difference is that instead of placing the results box below the form input, you want to display it somewhere else on the page (as far as I can tell.) You might try looking at the tutorial I sent you and see how you might modify it slightly for your needs. You end result may vary greatly, but the concepts are the same.

so I basically just put this on the page where I want it to show up or should I put it onto a different page and link the button to it?

I still haven't been able to create a mini browser or anything like it that website did not help alot maybe because I'm new to this but if you could help me a little more it would be most appreciated or if anyone else can help me with this problem I would be really grateful plz someone! 😕
