You could even use it for a production environment. The main problem is that if you use its default settings you'll likely have some security holes, but that does not prevent you from plugging those holes by changing the applicable settings. 🙂 Still, for any serious web site with real security concerns (e.g. personal data and/or monetary transactions) I'd want to use a server set up by someone who really knows what s/he is doing security-wise.
But, for local testing on a Windows PC, wampserver is my tool of choice.
