[RESOLVED] Universal query handling function

I am trying to write a function that I can pass a query string to and have it parse the results and return an array so I don't have to constantly retype the code. I am having a hard time figuring out how to read the dynamic field names for the keys however and assigning the values... I'm sure there is a fairly simple way but I'm not sure what function to use and it is difficult to search for since the search terms are words like funciton, query, handler which are all used in many topics... anyway. Any help is appreciated. I was looking into each() and list() but didn't get any decent results. I will continue working on this but any pointers will certainly help.

Here is one method of fetching field names:

$fields = array( );
while( $field = mysql_fetch_field( $query ) )
{
	$fields[] = $field->name;
}

I think by "query string" wmcelwee means a URL query string (e.g. "?type=foo&bar=foobar&..."). Correct me if I'm wrong, though.

If that's the case, there's no need to reinvent the wheel - PHP already has a [man]parse_str/man function.

Sorry bradgrafelman, I realized after I posted that I used the term 'query string' which was ambiguous. By query string, I did mean a string for a DB query and not the URL query string.

Matt - thanks 🙂 I was trying to do it all in one step and this method never occurred to me. I should be able to get it now.
