How to Auto Assign a Numeric Key when submitting a form

I have a user registration but when I go to delete_user.php, I can only delete if the user's name is unique, which isn't always the case.

I want to know how to assign an automatic numeric key which is unique each time a user registers, and wasn't sure if mySQL has support for this, or if it's done through PHP code alone.

**Sorry, wasn't aware if I should post in database forum or here, as the issue truly should be easy and resolvable for anyone with sufficient experience.

MySQL supports an AUTO_INCREMENT property for integer fields which are defined as the PRIMARY KEY of a table.

Question for you though: if the current system allows duplicate user names, how do you ensure that when a user logs in he does not do so as the wrong user?

Oh, sorry. It's actually not necessarily a user login system, more of a user registration for my business that will pull email, name, company name, number for future contact. There is no password field or cookie/session being used, just a simple query to the database to add a new record.

It all works fine, just when I review the list of registers on my admin page, I can only delete the ones with unique names. When I delete one with the same name, it deletes every entry with that name.

OK, then I would almost certainly add a column to the table for an auto-incremented primary key, and use that as the unique identifier of each row.
