image access

how do i access image that resides outside my document folder

example: my image.php is inside http://localhost/wwwroot/main/portal/image.php
my image is inside http://localhost/wwwroot/main/image folder

please anyone help me

use the relative path:
../ is one folder up:
../image/file.jpg

in my case is't i have to go up one folder or go down one folder because i want to access file that outside document folder
