Well, if you want to execute PHP code, someplace in some page that gets loaded you have to edit something. I don't understand why you can't edit a theme file; I do it all the time in my WP blogs. But assuming you have a good reason for not wanting to do so, the only other option I see is to create a wrapper PHP page that executes whatever code you need, plus includes the main WP script.
