Include's vs if's

Hi all!

Ive been bothered by this thing lately:

Which is better?

1 file with tons of ifs to control a flow of a function, or a ton/3 if's that include ton/2 of files to control the flow, and show appropriate results.

Any thoughts?

A function shouldn't need "tons of ifs" to operate except in certain circumstances; and even then it's probably still feasible to refactor the code into something more modular.

if there are tons of anything the problem is probably not about if's or includes.

Is this something you can stick in an array? It might not lighten the server load but it may make you code easier to handle.

Look for everywhere that those potential if clauses are repeating code and try to reduce it based on that for a start.

I think there is some confusion here.. includes are useful for when you have a chunk of code that needs to be called in every page..

For instance consider a top menu navigation system..
(pardon the pun, but no 'ifs' about it.. you would be best to use an include (or require). In the event you need to make any modifications, you simply modify the include / require file, and the changes are propogated site wide. This has nothing to do with 1 big file vs include.

You can have 1 big file or an equally big file using a smaller base file with some includes. It's the 'update-able modularity' aspect of an include that should be taken into consideration, as this is what it's used for.
