[RESOLVED] How to post Select

<select name="select">
<option>Tea</option>
<option>Coffee</option>
<option>Juice</option>
<option>Water</option>
</select>

How do i make this into a POST like normally when you have a box to submit into eg.
<input type = "text" name="first_name" >
you would just go:
$first_name = $POST["first_name"];
and then enter that into sql query etc. but how do you do it for select so that when someone selects one of those options it will then become the variable that i can then run in the query?

The exact same way: the $_POST array key will be the value of the name attribute of the select element.

(you forgot the value="" in the option tags, I forget if they're necessary but its good practice)

<select name="select">
<option value="tea">Tea</option>
<option value="coffee">Coffee</option>
<option value="juice">Juice</option>

The value attribute is only necessary if you want the value to be something other than the text that appears between the opening/closing option tags.

Ok i already was doing that so i guess im not doing anything wrong there. It must be my if statement thats going wrong. So pretty much how do i make is so that say for example:

if selelct = tea

{do this}

else

{do this}

or just make it that i can set it up so depending on what is selected something unique would happen based on that option. Well i guess that real question really is how to do get an "if" statement to work for the selected item.

Because select lists are usually comprised of more than two options, instead of an if statement, you are better off using a switch instead:

switch($_POST['select'])
{
    case 'tea':
    {
        // do tea stuff here
        break;
    }
    case 'coffee':
    {
        // do coffee stuff here
        break;
    }
    case 'juice':
    {
        // do juice stuff here
        break;
    }
    case 'water':
    {
        // do water stuff here
        break;
    }
    default:
    {
        // do stuff here for all other drinks
    }
}
