PHP Last Seen + User Status

Hi there,

I would like to display the status of my users (whether they are online or offline and perhaps which page they are viewing) however, the only way I can think of doing this is having a database query on each page updating the time last seen.

This is ok, but I am really worried about bandwidth. I only have limited bandwidth available on my account.

Would having a script like this which keeps connecting to a database eat up all my bandwidth or is it taking a negligible amount of bandwidth that I shouldn't be worrying.

What's everyone else's views on this? Would I be able to have a last seen script without having all my bandwidth consumed?

It really all depends on the concurrent user load. How many users do you plan on serving at one time?

Do you think its safe to say I can use a database query (or two) on each page without too much of a problem?

Unless the database is being hosted on a different server, bandwidth is irrelevant.

My bad, for some reason I substituted bandwidth for resources..
