MySQL Datatype storage capacity

Hi
I am using MySQL 3.23.47 in phpmyadmin 2.2.3
in that i used LONGTEXT datatype for storing content for CMS in PHP.
i learnt that it has capacity of 4GB but i able to store upto 1973 characters only..

There is any other datatype to store maximum size of data...

if yes suggest me..

Yikes! You really ought to be upgrading, that's an old version.
