gd text from database how to???

I'm relatively new to php , just started reading the php for dummies book, my partner runs a pet Sim game (vPet) and wants a userbar that displays two bits of info from the database(pet name and level)....so that people can display the userbar on forums.

ive spent nearly 2 weeks looking for the inforemation and ive only got as far as finding out its something to do with the GD library.....i can find how to put any old text onto an image but not how to call the text from the database.

Cany anyone help me out with this.......please???

If you still have the book PHP for dummies look for database connectivity or something like this. To connect to the databse is easy thing but you should have to know how. This tutorial may be useful for you
