URL Variables

Ok, now for a really silly question.

I'm trying to do URL variables (you know, the one that's like ....php?variable=whatever) and it's just not working. I try to do something like "...php?page=1" but when I try to access $page the variable's empty. Do I have have to reconfigure PHP or Apache to recognize that or am I missing the magic word? I'm running PHP5 and Apache 2.2x.

If the variable is passed by URL, you should use

$_GET['page']

instead of $page.

the reason $page is not available is because register_globals is not enabled, and I don't believe it is supported anymore with PHP 5 because it was a major security flaw. You have to use the $_GET superglobal to access GET data.

You can emulate having register_globals turned on by using the extract function on $_GET, but make sure you use the option to NOT overwrite existing variables.

in php5 you can enable register_globals, the problem is that if your using a hosting service they probably will not allow you to enable it. both jib0 and trevorsg are correct you should use the $_GET['page'] to grab your value.
