Display username php help

Im just a newbie. Pls help me...:eek:
Does anyone knows how to display the current visitor's username by making the cookie information readable and displayed anywhere on a website/page lyk forum sites, and friendster. Coz i am using a html in my friendster. What codes should be use???

I found out that php is used in this kind of stuff.

These simple lines of PHP code are used to display the current visitor's username. The desired cookie information can be read and displayed anywhere on your website. If the cookie is not found, a default value of "guest" is used as the username. This program can be easily added and modified to fit to your site.

Use an if statment.

echo ($_COOKIE['name']) ? $_COOKIE['name'] : "guest";

Put it where you want to print the name.

Ok here's what i did... I put it inside my body tag(where i want it to appear in my page)... but nothing happened... What's wrong w/it?

It should be:

<head>

echo isset($_COOKIE['name']) ? ($_COOKIE['name']) : "guest";
?>
</body>
</html>

If by "nothing happened" you mean that the page output was blank, then you need to enable display_errors in php.ini so you can see the error messages. In this case you had a syntax error since you erroneously tried to combine an if-else with the ternary operator.
