I'm not sure if this can be done or not, but here it goes.

I want to create a php template page where only a portion of the page changes.

ex. I have my headers links ect already in place, but I just want to change the body of the page. So say if I click on a link everything stays the same but the body changes...

It's kind of hard for me to explain kind of like frames but not frames 😕

I'm trying to adventure out from php database programming and I have no idea where to start with this 🙂

When you say everything stays the same, do you mean the page doesn't post back (reload?) Because that would be DHTML(javascript manipulating the DOM.) This can be done by storing hidden layers in the page, or by storing text in javascript arrays, or by using a page call from within javascript to a php page with text (AJAX.)

If you just mean that you would like the top/sides/bottom of your pages to stay the same always, but have the body contents change, I think you might be referring to include files. See php include(). The idea there is to have one header file (top half of html complete page) and one footer file (bottom half.) Of course you can include menus pages, etc inline also. You can also use apache serverside includes. Either way, the concept is the same. Content from your include files envelops your "body" contents. Here's a tutorial.
