fopen and ftp

Dear forum,

I want this script to transfer a csv file from one domain to another. The result is a empty file. Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

$handle = fopen("ftp://domain.se:[e-mail]/bilder.csv", "w");
$contents = fread($handle, filesize("bilder.csv"));
fclose($handle);

$handle2 = fopen("bilder.csv", "w");
fwrite($handle2, $contents);
fclose($handle2);

echo "Transfer finished!";

?>

You're passing fread() the file size of your new file, which either doesn't exist yet or is just a truncated file.

It exist. It's 12k in size and have many lines of text so the problem must be something else.

EDIT: It seems that $contents is empty after the ftp call.

Try this:

$handle = fopen('ftp://domain.se:[e-mail]/bilder.csv', 'r'); 
$contents = '';
while (!feof($handle)) {
    $contents .= fread($handle, 4096);
} 
fclose($handle); 
file_put_contents('bilder.csv', $contents;

Edit: "w" in the fopen() statement will truncate the file to zero length (if the ftp server allows you to write).

Sorry to hear that. It works perfectly for me, once the one parse error is corrected. You do have error display turned on, don't you?

Error display was turned off, I turned it on and will try again to see what happens.

Can this be something that my webhotel does not allow me to do? It seems strange if that's the case because I can login with my ftp client Transmit (Mac OS X).

There shouldn't be a problem with this scipt and the host as long as the host allows you to download, which, besides writing to your local machine, is all this script does. The syntax error is a missing ")" on the last line, btw. Having error display turned on can tell you a lot about why something isn't working. Your php.ini file tells you how, or you can do it in a script with ini_set().
