[RESOLVED] Quick and dirty way to learn PHP basics

Quick and dirty way to learn PHP basics.

I need to include a very basic poll in some HTML pages but cant find the exact PHP code I need for it anywhere. (sure there is tons polls around but I did not find one with the layout and properties I am looking for) So I guess I have to modify an existing script or even write one completely myself. I guess first thing to do is learn some PHP basics so was wondering if someone on here can point me in the right direction for that, I prefer something that is available on-line. Keep in mind that I will use PHP only very rare so I don’t really want to spend weeks on it. I am completely new to PHP, I do have some coding experience in HTML, VB, Delphi and assembler tho.

The most handy document online for PHP is the PHP manual.

That said, it may be wiser for you to hire a PHP programmer (or barter trade skills, especially if you have graphic design skills). With your background, you can learn the rudiments of PHP easily, but actually creating a good poll system and avoiding security gotchas and such is a different matter.

Thanks to both of you, PHP 101 works for me as quick and dirty while the PHP Manual is a good reference.

@ laserlight – Yeah the thought passed my mind to me to ask someone to write it for me but this is a hobby thing for me and I don’t want spend a lot gold on it for a professional programmer. The thing I want is very basic and should not take to long for a skilled programmer to write……. Then again learning some of this PHP stoof might just be fun for me 😛
