php/mysql search form question

Alright, Ive never done a search form before.

For the most part I have used a tutorial which returns 1 search field. Works great, however.

I dont know how to go about using it with a multiple select form, for instance

<select size="8" name="city" multiple="multiple">
 <option value="Arlington">Arlington</option>
 <option value="Attleboro">Attleboro</option>
 <option value="Back Bay">Back Bay</option>
 <option value="Beacon Hill">Beacon Hill</option>
 <option value="Bedford">Bedford</option>
</select>

With this I can select 1, 2, 3, ect at once...

I am using a very comon script for the search, here is the sql

SELECT * FROM tblresults WHERE City LIKE \"%$trimmed%\" ORDER BY Price

So how in the world do i add more values to the results.

as of now 1 city works, but I have no clue how to add city names to the results, any ideas?

You can make checkboxes and multiselects be parsed as arrays under $_POST if you add array brackets to the name attribute in the html code.

<select size="8" name="city[]" multiple="multiple">
 <option value="Arlington">Arlington</option>
 <option value="Attleboro">Attleboro</option>
 <option value="Back Bay">Back Bay</option>
 <option value="Beacon Hill">Beacon Hill</option>
 <option value="Bedford">Bedford</option>
</select>

Now just build the query with a for/while/foreach loop. I like to use implode in these situations:

$sql = "SELECT * FROM tblresults WHERE City = '";
$sql .= implode("' OR City = '", $_POST['city']);
$sql .= "' ORDER BY Price";
?>

Thank you for the reply, I can see how that would work. I added it but unfortunatly im getting a error

and its returning for results as array like so,

Sorry, your search: "Array" returned zero results

not sure if its the rest of the search script, i might have to build my own for/while/foreach loop to use this.

It appear s that perhaps $_POST['city'] is not an array in your instance.

What do you get when you call:

print_r($_POST['city']);

before calling implode?
