insert a space into a phone number?

If a user inserts a phone number as all one digit - 01234567890 into a database, when it is called to be displayed on a web page is it possible to have it displayed as 01234 567890 ?

Can anyone point to a tutorial on this subject please or perhaps show me some code that might work?

One way is to strip off all the whitespace and then use [man]substr/man and re-construct the phone number.

Another way is to use regex.
