decimals(?) showing up instead of characters

Hi!

I collect info from mysql and runs it through a str_replace before I output inside a nl2br()...

When i'ts outputted the α is shown as

&#945;

. All other greek letters as well. Norwegian chars are no problem.

Why is this happening? How do I prevent it?

What does the text look like before you put it through str_replace, what does the str_replace do, and while I'm asking, what actually appears in the HTML source at that point? I may be totally wrong about what you have, but if you have "&#945;" in the database record (instead of using a multibyte character set and storing α in the database directly), and if somewhere during the processing you escape the "&" character as "&", you'd get "&#945;" displayed in the output.

Thanks Weedpacket! You got me thinking and I found the error. There was a htmlentities() process I wasn't aware of.

Another thing!

I use js to change the title:

function changeTitle(title) { 
	document.title = title; 
}
<script type=\"text/javascript\">changeTitle(\"".$main_title."\")</script>

In the title

&#945;

is displayed even if I do a html_entity_decode on the string. The string is fetched from mysql and is in correct format in the db. It displays correct if I output it on the page.

Any ideas for this? thanks!
