[RESOLVED] Simple Regex

Hello, I am trying to count all break tags in a string.
Can someone please tell me the simple regex for break tags?

$split = 2;
preg_match_all('#<br\s*/?>#i', $string, $array);
$prefix_ARRAY = array_slice($array[1], 0, $split);

Use $array[0]. ($array[1] would be the first sub-pattern in the regexp, but there are none in this case.)

OK, that removed the error,

I am trying to automatically insert ads in threads after xx paragraphs defined by break tags

but that displays everything but the top part and the bottom part

$split= '1';

echo $new_string;exit;[/QUOTE]What this is doing is keeping the break tags and wiping out the text above and below

Try using [man]preg_split[/man] to split the text into individual paragraphs. Then [man]array_chunk[/man] to group them together into batches of xxx. Join the elements of each chunk back together so that you're left with an array of strings. Then it's just a matter of alternating the elements of that array with your ads.

tito, I mean no offense by this, but for future reference may I recommend you start your thread with stating clearly and concisely the ultimate problem and goal you have along with the source code?

I am reading the 'flow' of your posts within this thread, and step by step (as people solve what you are asking from them), you reveal more and more about the problem at hand.

I believe the problem here stems from a solution you have in mind (conceptually), but it may not be the best one. By presenting the entire problem and desired end goal with the code you have, it makes it much clearer from the start to members who are willing to spend some time to help out.

Just makes the flow of threads like this much smoother flowing (and perhaps eliminates [or at the very least cuts down] any possible mounting frustrations as well as wasted time).

With the post from NogDog, I am able to insert the ads in the threads. The problem is that only the ads are inserted. Everything before and after it is stripped. Maybe it's in the regex?

Here is the full function

function insertAd($string,$ad,$split) {

I get and print the string no problem within the function, so it's there.

When I start printing the arrays before and after the split, they are empty.
In fact, they are empty from the regex.

print_r($array) which is being generated by the preg_match_all returns

The code by NogDog is very easy for me to manipulate and allows me to insert the ad exactly where I want to.... Only that regex stripping the text ....

I just printed every step and this is what I got.

First step was the text with all images, before I the regex call,
then I got the first array and the ad table eactly were it supposed to be and the second array underneath ... where it supposed to be... but it's displaying a bunch of break tags

I would use
$array = preg_split ( '<br />', string $subject , -1 , PREG_SPLIT_DELIM_CAPTURE );

to break the string up.

I don't know how to thank you. That took me 2 days to figure it out, and you did it in 2 lines :queasy::queasy:

I have one minor issue left . It inserts an extra character > (arrow)
