Download an mp3

Dear All

I am useing this code to force a download:

header("Cache-Control: public");     

	 header("Content-Description: File Transfer");     

	 header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=$file_name");     

	 header("Content-Type: audio/mp3");     

	 header("Content-Transfer-Encoding: binary");         // Read the file from disk     

	 readfile($file_name); 

It works fine on one computer. On another running Norton it wont work at all unless I switch norton off.

Can anyone suggest what I might need to change in my code for Norton to stop getting all worked up.

Is header("Content-Description: File Transfer"); actually necessary? If not that might be a red flag. As for Norton, I suggest leaving it off 🙂

I have commented out that line.

On one pc running xp pro, mcafee it behaves as expected in IE7, FF

On windows xp home with Norton IS2005 in IE6 I press on the link, get a blank page, wait for about 30 seconds and then up pops the "Do you want to download/open" this file. If you press yes, it "Instantly" saves it even though the file is 17M. So I guess that in that 30 seconds its acutally downloading the file, rather than giving you the option?

Sounds like Norton is downloading the file and scanning it prior to allowing you to download it. Kind of backwards if you ask me. You could always just put a note on the site saying that Norton doesn't play nice with your script and in order to download, turn it off for a bit.
