[RESOLVED] Need help emailing results of an online form??

Hi guys,

This is my very first post as I have just started studying web design & PHP.

I am currently developing an Intranet site for work & have hit a road block designing an online form of which I want to email the results.

When I click on submit I get the following error: -

Warning: mail() [function.mail]: SMTP server response: 530 authentication required - Your email could not be sent. To fix this you must make a simple change to your email (known as SMTP authentication). For advice visit www.btyahoo.com/smtp in C:\htdocs\sales_order_form.php on line 103

I do believe it's because my ISP requires SMTP authentication & I know there are work arounds & would like some advice please.

I have heard about PHP mailer but have not got a clue where to start & how to use this so any advice would be very much appreciated.

Ok.. First go and download the PHPMailer from their page.

Read the docs. Tutorial is good starting point from their page.

Now.. To get the authentication to work, you'll have to define few additional variables. This script is taken from the tutorial page. I added the necessary variables that you have to add:

Do I write this script before the DOC declaration on the forms page?

Also, do I need to amend the phpmailer.php file in anyway?

Ok.

I have now installed PHPMailer & run a basic email script but I am getting this message: -

Message could not be sent.
Mailer Error: Language string failed to load: provide_address

I have placed the phpmailer.lang-en.php script in the same directory as the other mailer scripts & amended the script to include the recepients email address but still get the same message.

Any ideas on what I could be doing wrong?

Doing a Google search on the error message yeilded:

There is missing a call like
$mail->SetLanguage('en', '/path/to/the/directory/language/'); // of the mailer.

You need also the files from the language directory of phpmailer.

Hi Kudose,

I copied the english PHP file into the includes folder with the phpmailer file & smtp file as instructed in the installation file you download with the package of which is apparently all I need to do.

I have also entered the recepients email address in the english php file where it states on the first line.

Where abouts in the script would I insert the following line: -

$mail->SetLanguage('en', '/path/to/the/directory/language/'); // of the mailer.

Also, do I need to amend the PHPmailer.php file in anyway or do I leave as is?

Sorry for the silly questions but I am just learning at the minute.

You should be able to set the value at any point before you call send()

You should never have to amend classes. If you do, the class is not written properly.

How does this effect it picking up the language file?

It doesn't, but cahva is right. You never set who you're sending your message to.

Yes, but you will need to replace /path/to/the/directory/language with the correct path.

I want to thank you guys for really helping me out with this problem.

I now have it sorted.

All I need to do now is implement this practice into a form page so I can email the results.

I am thinking of installing the PHPMailer F-E package?
