Ajax forum?

Heya folks, do you think we should add an Ajax forum to the site? Any other forums we should consider adding?

Seems to me that 99% of AJAX is learning to create/use one new JavaScript object along with a bit of fairly standard JavaScript to output the results returned from the server. In fact, it seems that most of the "AJAX" I see being used (including stuff I do) is really just "AJ" (no "and XML" involved in it). Inasmuch as I'd hate to see this site get bloated with too many more forums, maybe you could just rename the "ClientSide Technologies" forum to something like "Client-Side: JavaScript, AJAX, HTML, etc."

PS: I might be inclined to move the "Dicussion" forum group down below the following 2 groups in order to give those more technical groups greater visibility.

Agreed, I use XML only to keep my client side script to be able to identify anonymous objects (this) rather then useing a million getElementById

I think another good reason to keep AJAX a part of javascript is that that is exactly what it is. I see alot of people wanting to learn AJAX by itself without understanding Javascript which I find like wanting to play just "Mozart's 5th Symphony" but not wanting to learn the piano.

Technically it's a combination of technologies, but it belongs in clientside, even though it's really both client and server.

From a marketing standpoint, maybe you should create an "AJAX and Web 2.0" forum, just to make sure we cover both of the over-hyped buzzwords. 😉 (The longest thread will probably be, "So just wtf is Web 2.0?")

I think I would prefer to see an Apache forum (under Misc. Help); there are often questions about mod_rewrite and .htaccess and so forth.

Being new, I don't know how much this will be relevant, but I think it would be a good idea to have a AJAX forum but also include how to properly use php to interact with script libraries such as jquery, mootools, etc...

A while ago I was looking for such a place but short of google groups and some not-so-traveled forums didn't find much.

I think if you go into the client-side forum and click the new thread button, you'll see how we dealt with this issue. Thread prefixing. More efficient than having a separate forum for each framework or Ajax question.
