looking for a host

I've been away from the *nix world for a few years working in asp.net at my (under paid) day job. I now want to get back into php and build a public web site. But I don't know who is who anymore. I would like to find a good host besides 1and1 or godaddy. Can you all suggest a few to check out, or to stay away from?

I highly recommend Host Gator. The servers are fast and I've never had a problems, support is not bad either.

I tend to trawl through web hosting specific online communities for this kind of thing. It would be good to decide on what you want, e.g., the price range, desired storage space, bandwidth, etc. It could even be something like whether you just want shared hosting or want to play around with what a VPS could offer.
