PHP Snoop for PR Hunter

Hi I know a tiny bit of php and mysql stuff and I'd like to know if it is possible to make a bot that can explore websites by itself starting from google with a given keyword and have it store the address of webpages that pass my criteria.

e.g the bot will note down the addresses of websites that are of pagerank 5 and higher, they will be stored in a document that i can view.

What do you think of this idea?

possible, but not really appropriate for the php language. A php script is designed to run for a short amount of time, you can make one run for ever, bu there are better options like writing something in C to do this

PHP will be the fastest to create the bot, but will be kinda slow depending on parsing done on the content. C++ would be faster and easier to create than in C, with negligible speed differences.

I know nothing about C++, tried to look into it a while ago but couldn't find anything to start me off.

Does anyone know any good tutorials/info for absolute beginners?

Do you have a deadline to meet? If you are starting from scratch in C++ without a strong programming background then I would expect you to take several months before you are competent enough to write your desired program by yourself in C++. You may be better off just using PHP.

Thanks for your response, I have some background. I'm very experienced in html, some php, mysql, have done programming in director and flash to a high level, did a university course in programming opengl (but that was ages ago). I'm familiar with programming and could probably get into it pretty fast.

No deadline, but prefer within 3 months.

edit: intend to spend 8 - 12 hours a day each weekday as I found i really like programming.
