\n\r when pressing return, how do i kill them?

hi i have adatabase that is working but i have one annoying thing to conquer. when my text areas are fill in and the user presses return... to start a new paragraph, i get \n and \r's in the saved data in the filed. i understand these are just telling to prgram that theres a new paragraph etc, but how do i get them out while still showing my data with the paragraphs etc.

heres an example.

i am sick of these slashes\r\n\r\njust cos i pressed return.

your help is muchly appreciated.

when make that visible on your site, you can use

$message from database...

print nl2br($message);

that converts these paragragps into br.

could i do this to a variable before it is in the database.

for some of my forms i output the same variable to screen or send to email content before it is saved into the databasE?

at the point of use, you can use nl2br to replace them on the fly, for any usage.

but, its better to store these special breaks as \n \r \t in a database.
(if you want to put them into a textarea you didn't need to replace these values from <br> to a real enter.)
