Installing PHP4 on ubuntu 8. n00b alert.

Basically, the php4 packages arent available anymore.

The php4-cgi package isnt available anymore.

Never installed php manually before, could someone please give me some direction on how to install php4 as a cgi (the server needs to run php5 as well)?

Why exactly do you need to run PHP4? Note that normal support for PHP4 by the official PHP developers ended at the end of last year, and the last PHP4 release was made 4 months ago.

Basically... client of mine has an overcomplicated system which their clients use. they havent used it for a while but want to get into using it again.

The system uses loads of php classes, which, basically, ALL use old construct methods. Iv had a run through briefly to try to get it working on 5 but at every corner, theres more work.

They dont want to spend time on fixing it for 5 (neither do i), they want a new version at some point because it all needs updating, but they do want to get the existing one working as a 'i need it now' type kludge.

Its bad, i know, but im gonna go with the client on this one. They havent got a spec, they havent an idea how the system works. If im ever to attempt rewriting the thing, ill need it running to do that.
