timed sql execution

can anyone help me, i want to set a date and time for my server to execute an sql command to one of my databases. Is this possible or do all these things have to be done manual ? Thanks

If you have a *nix server, you need to look at cron to do scheduled jobs

my server does have cron on it. What do i have to do, do i put the sql on the server in a *.sql file ? what needs to be in there ? or do i put like an install php file ? what would the command be to execute it ?

and how do i set it to only execute once ?

There are many ways to do it.
If you have php, you can write a small script to execute the command.
If you don't you can use mysql's command line interface and have cron run that.

You can set cron to run a job at a set date once a year.
