Showing text without refreshing page

I imagine that this will consist of Javascript.. but here is what I have:

I have coded a page that shows you a random "quiz question" every day, and then you click on a link for it to show you the right answer.

I want to eliminate having to go to a new page to find the answer, and instead want them to be able to click the link, and then the text just kind of pop up right under that link.

I thought about at one time to just make a form SELECT box.. and have the option showing to be CLICK FOR ANSWER then when they clicked on that, it would show the answer, but sometimes the answer would be so long that it would go off the page.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have never really worked with javascript much, which is the only way I know to do it.

I image I would need to preload(or some other word) the text.. that way its already loaded, just not visible yet, then have a script that would make it visible.

I could always just have the answer there, but have the text color the same as the background, and have them to highlight it, but I want something a little more professional if I can.

The simplest solution would be purely JavaScript. You could use PHP to select the question and populate the applicable variable(s) in your JavaScript. If you need something a bit more "secure" where the user could not simply view the page source to find the answer, then you're probably looking into an "AJAX" solution, which is simply a specific use of JavaScript that allows your page to communicate with the web server.

Well i'm really making this for study purposes. I insert question/answers.. then I want random questions to come up, like notecards mixed up.

I have figured the best thing.. is just have a link below it, that brings up a javascript alert box that will show the answer there. then you just close it, and refresh the page for a new question.
