My best friend Noggin will be going under the veterinary surgeon's knife tomorrow to remove a suspicious lump. He and I would both appreciate any prayers, positive thoughts, and/or incantations -- or whatever you deem appropriate -- that the surgery goes well and that the biopsy results are negative.

It's christmas time.. have some faith and leave it all in capable hands.. that's all you can do at this point. Pets become family members, as they are so loved and cherished and valued.. so my thoughts are with him. Best of wishes..

How old's Noggin? Hopefully everything turns out all right and it's just a random mass of fluid or a benign tumor.

My g/f has a little pup that is 16 years old with a mass forming right where her right "shoulder blade" moves across her ribs. She's too old for surgery, so we just have to wait it out. Deaf, blind, and gets into everything if it smells like food (like the trashcan).

Noggin is 10 years old now, which for a dog his size is equivalent to somewhere between 70 and 75 years old for a human. So physically he's 20 years my senior, but emotionally he's still my baby. This is the first (potentially) serious health problem he's had, so of course I'm fretting like any parent would. Unfortunately, the lump was in an area of his body that I don't normally take a close look at (nor want to), so I have no idea how long it's been forming, but yesterday he was licking and chewing at it so much that I had to see what the problem was, and...yuck! :eek:

Oh well, it helps me anyway to "share" with you all and not sit here worrying by myself.

Noggin is back home again, looking tired, sore, and a bit peeved that I can't give him anything to eat or drink until tomorrow.

But the results? Is it all good? Or do you have wait for a lab to analyze what they removed?

Yeah, it's a waiting thing now until the lab results come back. I didn't think to ask while I was there how long it will be before the results come back.

He seems to be recovering slowly, mostly just sleeping or lying around groaning. (Really: it's not a whine, growl, or any other "doggish" noise, he groans.) Still awaiting lab results, so for now it's little victories like learning how to get him to take his pills (peanut butter) and doing his first "number two" tonight since the operation. 🙂 So far he has not required his stylish "Elizabethan collar" as he's not been picking at his stitches yet.

My dog had various problems after being attacked by another dog, and she had to undergo many operations across the space of a few years. It was a terrible time for us emotionally (and financially!) but luckily she came through and is now all well and good.

My thoughts are with you.

Noggin started licking the stitches today, so it was on with the "ruff". He's not real happy about it, though.

Because they look too freaky when the pupils are glowing almost white.

PS: This is what the eyes looked like before I 'shopped them, completely unedited. (Using the "red-eye" setting on the flash doesn't help, as the irises don't contract enough anyway, and the primary result is that he turns away befor the actual photo is taken.)

Yeah, I can understand where you're coming from. Is the flash built into the camera (in otherwords, either a built in front-end flash or pop-up flash)? Or is it an external one that you plug into the hotshoe? If its the latter, these flashgun heads can usually pivot and tilt.. thus you can aim the flash up at the ceiling and as a result, have a much softer bounced lighting effect (thus also eliminating those (road-crossing-deer-caught-in-the-headlights kind of look).

It's built-in. It's also an old camera (only 1 mega-pixel, and 2 mega-pixel cameras were just coming out when I bought it 🙂 ).
