Did PHP 5.2.8 lose mssql support on windows?

When installing PHP 5.2.8, the mssql extension is no longer available. Is this a mistake on the creation of the installer, or did I miss some news about mssql support being dropped?

It is my understanding that the PHP gods dropped support as of ver. 5.3. The ntwdblib.dll is also missing for either php.ini file (Apache or PHP). But it is present in 5.2.x versions (I use both PHP versions).

Speaking of MSSQL, I am in the process of setting this up for ver. 5.2.5. Does anybody know what the correct installation procedures are to do this?
