[RESOLVED] Checking email address existance

Hello,
I want to check that email address that user have entered is valid or not using php script. I searched on the net but I found the scripts only checking for domain name validation. And what I require is to check full email address check. For example if user's email is [e-mail] then it will first check domain & then it will check email-id exists on that domain or not. Is it possible to do so? If yes then how? Please help me. Thanks in advance.

I don't believe it is possible just by looking at each component in the email address that it exists and is valid.

The reasonable way to validate the existence of an email address is to send an email to the user's address.

I'm sure you have seen sites using this technique when creating new user accounts. The user fills in a registration form and supplies the site with the username, firstname, lastname, and email address. After the user presses the register button, on the server an email is created that gets sent to that email address. The user is then forced to click on a link in the email that requests the user to log in and if it is correct, then you know within reason it is the user and he/she is associated with that email address.

And to limit the volume of e-mails you'd generate if bots were filling the form out, you might consider adding a CAPTCHA as well.
