Wot, no Firefox? 😃 Or would you recommend Chrome? Can you get a Firebug analogue for Chrome (I wonder how the .js debugger would work)? I know that Microsoft's attempt for IE is woeful.
This is such a broad category. OpenOffice.org because it's just quieter and less invasive of my system than Office (like, how do I stop Word from grabbing .html file associations? Having it hijack the document icon alone means that one use of Word and I have to go registry-diving to clean up its mess)? Ghostscript for being able to handle .ps as well as .pdf and also functions as a PDF printer (so avoiding reasonable uses of Acrobat); of course, it does baulk at what I'd consider perfectly reasonable PDF documents more often than I'd like.
