Got a little problem.

I have a form that takes a person's name and stores it in a DB.
At a later stage the person can submit another form to retrieve their data.
I make a check to see if the names match.
All form transfers are via POST.

If the person's name has an apostrophe eg O'Mara it is posted as O\'Mara
When it is stored in the DB it is stored as O'Mara
When I make the later check I have O\'Mara in the posted variable and O'Mara in the DB.
So the name check fails.

How can I get round this?

Sounds like you have magic_quotes_gpc on. Your best bet is to actually turn magic_quotes_gpc off in your php configuration since it's been deprecated (see: the manual).

The other option is to use [man]stripslashes/man on all $_POST data and then before inserting into the database use [man]mysql_real_escape_string/man to escape the data (or [man]pg_escape_string/man if using Postgre).
