Passing an ID from one page to the next

Hope someone can help with this.

I basically have a page that creates a new record in a Contacts table, and then goes to a second form where profiles are added to that new Contact using checkboxes.

What I'm trying to do is pull through the primary key ContactID created for the new record into the second page so that the profiles can be linked to the new Contact just added.

Not sure how well I've explained that, but hope it makes sense!

If the information being stored in the contact table is unique (as in no other row will have the exact same data), as I would suspect it will have to be. After you submit the information to the database just run a second query, using that same information that was submitted, to look for the record . And the returned results will have the ContactID.

Or use the mysql_insert_id() function to get the last inserted ID's value. But to be sure that the insert was succes.

$new_id=mysql_insert_id();

...and then put that in a session variable so that it's available to the following pages.
