[RESOLVED] Link Restricting

Is there a way to create 5 links on a page that have to be clicked in order of 1-5. If the user attempts to click a link out of order they get an error page. Each link takes them to a payment portal and they are redirected back to the original page after each purchase. Each successive link becomes active only after they have been redirected from the payment processor for the previous payment link.

I am clueless! Probably more than most Newbs so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Look into using [man]sessions[/man]. Basically, you could assign a page number to each page (e.g. 1-5), and for the links you could point to "link.php?page_id=1". You'd then check on each page if the page in the session is equal to one less than the current page number and, if so, increment the page number in the session and redirect the user to the desired link.

Wouldn't something like this work -

If (this page was redirected from this URL)

then (go to this URL by clicking the link)

else (go to this URL by clicking the link)

What would I put in the parentheses? I realize that they would have to be redirected from the payment portal to a page other than the original one and click a link to take them to the original page. I could create 5 different pages to use in the "IF' statement.

You are going to want to use bradgrafelman's suggestion. Being able to store the last page they completed in the $_SESSION super global array will make it really easy to run the if/else against that data.

You just cannot ask for an easier way to pass data to pages the user will be accessing further down the road.

Referer headers shouldn't normally be a requirement of your code, since a) they are unreliable - you might not always receive this header, and b) they can be easily faked/altered.
