Dynamic Images for forums... creating png's on the fly possible?

Hi everybody!

I created a page that creates dynamic png signatures for forums. For example, you could put www.example.com/user=sois in the address bar of a browser and using the PHP GD functions, it created a png image.

However, forums are starting to disable dynamic images by default. This leaves my users sad that they cannot use their signatures on forums.

I've seen websites create dynamic png's on the fly, something like www.example.com/sois.png. I know GamerTag.net can do that. I have emailed them and hope they can shed some light on it, but I also thought I'd ask phpbuilders. You guys have never let me down 🙂

Anyone have any ideas on how to do this?

URLs are not filenames: all that's happening is that the web server is configured to take a URL of the form "www.example.com/sois.png" and rewriting it as "www.example.com/user=sois" or whatever and then working out what it should do with that (namely, running an image-generation script and passing the string 'sois' to it).

No-one knows what web server you're using. But if anyone knows, it's probably whoever wrote the web server's documentation.
