Hey everyone
I'm having a bit of a problem here. I can telnet into the web server I'm using (the Lantronix Matchport B/G) from any cmd and PuTTY and the utilities on a computer, but I can't do it using fsockopen: I get

Warning: fsockopen() [function.fsockopen]: unable to connect to ..:*(Connection timed out) in /home/content/r/i/v/riverguardian/html/.../dev/.../index.php on line 3
Connection failed [110].

How can it be that I can connect perfectly fine on a console but not via fsockopen? (Yes, I have all the details in correctly).

If you telnet from your computer so some IP address, that is one thing. Getting PHP to connect to it might not work for several reasons:
1) the computer running the PHP code is behind a locked-down firewall. Is PHP running on the same machine that you puTTY from? If not, this is quite likely.
2) PHP could be running in safe mode or something.
3) The remote host could be blocking the IP of your machine running PHP.

I'm sure there are other reasons.

The code works using PHP on a local server, so I guess your number 1 is likely. I'm going to see how I might be able to circumvent that?

Your hosting provider may just have everything all locked down for security reasons. My brother owns a small hosting company and I know he does this. It's a pretty good idea. You should talk to the system admin who handles the server.
