Charging customer and postback?

I'm building a site and need to incorporate a 'Classifieds Ads' section into it. I need to be able to charge customers for adverts and I'm currently signed up with Google Checkout but I'm wondering how hard/simple this is to do?

Can anyone give me any points? I.e. you add the advert itself, you're then redirecetd to the payment gateway, which posts back to confirm or not confirm payment?

Start with a form to add the advertisement. That will get you thinking about what kind of data structures you are going to need. From there, you'll start getting into the code that handles a form submission which will involve using a database. After that, start reading google checkout documentation which should have examples about how to use it.

Thanks mate - sorry if I was unclear, I guess its more of the 'post' / 'response' system with Google Checkout, I've never done it before, must I use the API and does that require XML?

I'm hoping its a simple process for a one off payment style interface?

I've never done google checkout myself but google is pretty awesome about providing sample code. In fact, I googled "google checkout php code" and found this:
