PHP Connection to Access .mdb Database

Hi Guys

Here goes, i've no idea where to start with this, and i know this place has led me in the right direction before.

Im only used to connecting php with MySQL however im now trying to connect to a Microsoft Access .mdb database that i have on my web server and have no idea how. Ive tried lots of combinations and have had no luck. I understand that there is odbc and DSN-Less connections but which one do i use. Also if ODBC how on earth do i go about setting an ODBC connection up on my web server, do i get my hosting company to do it for me??

If possible i would like to by-pass the odbc connection and connect to the db in a different way.

Just for a little extra information i have the database file called hope.mdb inside a subfolder on my domain called db.

Can anyone please help me??

I believe MS Access is an ODBC database. And PHP does a very good job of working with ODBC databases. Check out the ODBC manual on php.net.

As for setting up a ODBC on your Web host you may not be allowed to. Most give you MySQL or PostgreSQL unless the you picked the host because it had an option for you to setup an ODBC database. You will have to talk to them in regards to the services they provide.

As for the file being on your web host. I don't believe it can be directly accessed using a normal database connection. But, if I remeber correctly you may be able to parse the file. If it is a large database that may be impractical for your web site users but if it can be parsed you may beable to put it into a MySQL database.
