How to track login dates/times?

Evening everyone,

I am slowly learning PHP and login scripts. On my site, I have a registration and login page/script using MySQL. All very simple!

However what would be really helpful is finding out when users last logged in. Plus if I could have on the index.php (once logged in) 'Welcome user name'.

I am not sure what to search on google tho in order to find scripts or tutorials to do this!

Could anyone give me some pointers?

update a timestamp in the db for the user every time they login, as you already have a login script its not much to add.

Plus if I could have on the index.php (once logged in) 'Welcome user name'.

when they log in write there user name from the db to the screen

echo 'welcome '.$user_name;

if you want the user name on every page add it to the session array on login

if you're not interested in keeping a record of every login the user made...

Have a date & time column in the users table called "last_login" or whatever. Once a user has logged in, update that field to NOW().

When they log in again, you retrieve it along with their other login details.
