I'm not here much; occasionally, when the inbox gets hit by a reply to some old thread; since it only hits after a visit, that's probably why it doesn't get hit often.
Why?
In 2005 my son's cousin showed him an MMORPG, and, since he was only 12 at the time, I created an account there also ... we both got kind of addicted and that took lots of my online time here away. Plus, I got modded there (never did here) and that got me stuck in the community (which isn't necessarily a bad one, but how many communities can you be a part of? The resources aren't infinite.)
Just this week we discovered that the son, soon to be 16, is sneaking his laptop into bed after dark to play all kinds of online games and no telling what else he's doing (unless you look at the history and the logs for the proxy, etc.) If we ask him where his computer is at night, he'll say "under the couch", and then we looked and, no, 'twasn't. So, we engage him in a discussion of integrity and telling the truth ... and he replies that he might quit playing games all night if I give up playing the MMORPG.
To top that off, we then find that he's learned the teacher password to his home-school curriculum on the same lappy and been changing his grades. So, I've got to make changes in my example ... he seems to think that if I can do whatever I want, he should be able to as well. And, there's a little truth in that, but we think he needs to learn that lying about things will get you in jail if you throw yourself full-tilt down that road.
So, bye bye to MMORPG, but will I be back to PHPBuilder more?
Hard to say.
I will say, I appreciated the camraderie shown here as I learned PHP. I'll say I wish I made lots of $$$$ with PHP, but that hasn't happened (although it's bought a couple mobos and some groceries, I'll bet, and lots of gasoline). You guys of auld rocked this joint, and I'll check back whenever I can without causing family problems to increase.
