I want a t1 (i think)

I'm fed up with Optimum Online. When it works it's great problem is I get constant congestion and right now its working like im on 36.6 back in 1995

Plus I'm going to be hosting a med size app from my home which I was thinking of doing on cable or fios. But since it could be worthwhile I am thinking of going just straight t1.

Only concern is all the material i'm reading on speed test are a little dated. Stuff from 4 years ago when they are comparing t1's to cable which back then topped at 3mb down and 768k up.

Some guy did say it best it's about "speed" and not "bandwith" which he explained well using a satalite example of how it takes forever to connect to a satalite but then you get the info all at once.

I'm still assuming t1's and faster then cable even though its' 1.5mb down and up.
The price is 299 a month which seems high but if its for business it may be worth it. (although i'm sure that's a lowball price)

What do yall think, any company you suggest I look at in Northern NJ?

Anybody got a t3 I can borrow?

How do business broadband services (cable, DSL, and/or FIOS) compare from your local providers versus their residential services? Normally they provide more speed than the lower-priced residential services, plus the option for a fixed IP address if needed.

We do not yet have FIOS here and its no predicted to come about any time soon.
Cable is the only real broadband option here which is fine for offpeak but during peak hours I can come to a crawl which is what I worry about. I know DSL and specially t1's are dedicated lines but their speeds seem now to be quite outdated. Today I ran a test on speedtest.net after a week of having no more then 56k speeds and got a consistent 1mb - 1.5 up and anywhere from 16-30mb in the US down.

T3's are still like 16k?

Indeed. A few hundred milliseconds up to the bird, and an equivalent number down, and then you get your packet sent across the Internet. TCP/IP was designed to work on land-based networks, and packet response times of 1000 msecs are interpreted as network congestion ... so the protocol sizes the window down (or something like that?)

Satellite can be a bummer.
