[RESOLVED] letters and digits in a string

Hello.
I have string with some letters and digits and symbols -> xxxxxxxxx2009 .
Can I somehow place it in preg_replace this way so all strings with 2009 and any characters before in this string will be replaced?

$allitems = preg_replace(array("/xxxxxxxxx2009/i"), array(" "),$allitems);

Something like this?

$allitems = preg_replace('/\S*2009/', ' ', $allitems);
