[RESOLVED] Clarification on Syntax for including local variables?

Since starting with PHP, if I wanted to incorporate a local $ variable into a piece of script, I would do the following...

"here is some text " . $myvariable . " and the text continues"

...but more and more so I'm seeing script that doesn't escape out, the local variable is included in the script and I presume automatically detected at runtime?

Like this...

"here is some text $myvariable and the text continues"

What are the pros/cons to this approach?

To understand this better, read the PHP manual's entry on strings. In particular, read the sections on "Variable parsing" and "Useful functions and operators".

Variable interpolation (the latter) tends to be marginally slower than concatenation (the former), but sometimes makes the code more readable.

Thanks, I've always used the concatenation style, perhaps I'll stick with it - thanks again!
